Places to visit in the Northern Quarter 2017-01-26T16:15:56+00:00

From first glance, the Northern Quarter or NQ does not look like the creative and dynamic area that it is now famous for. Formerly the industrial centre of Manchester, there are nods to its cotton and rag trade history throughout the area. Lots of very cool secret landmarks and sights can only be seen by those in the know. Ask us when you arrive for our little tips and you will be part of a very exclusive circle!

Here are some of our other tips for the Northern Quarter

Matt and Phreds Jazz Club – A stones throw away from the hotel, this cool live music venue hosts gigs 6 days a week. It specialises in jazz and folk but check their website for other genres.

Piccadilly records, Vinyl Exchange, Rubber Soul and Eastern Bloc – The area is famous for its fantastic music scene and also hosts these amazing record shops. Keep a look out for special guests, gigs and record buying events. These four along Oldham Street are best for independent music lovers!

Affleck’s Palace – A Northern Quarter institution, Affleck’s showcases weird and wonderful vintage and independent stores across 4 floors and is home to incredible desserts at Ginger’s Comfort Emporium.

Fred Aldous

Stocking everything from wool to paper, crafty visitors will adore Fred’s!

Frog and Bucket

Within 5 minutes of the hotel, with at least 3 comedy shows a week, it is one of the most entertaining nights you will have in Manchester.

Yard and Coop, Evuna NQ, Evelyn’s, Solita and Sweet Mandarin are just some of our current favourite restaurants in Manchester at the moment and all within 5 minutes’ walk of the hotel but don’t forget our very own Abels Dining Rooms.

Kosmonaut, Dusk ‘til Pawn and Cottonopolis are some of our favourite bars currently and again all within a 5 minute walk of the hotel.
